Arts Week with Judy Murphy
A show from British comic Bobby Davro and the return of Irish favourite Andrew Maxwell will be among the highlights of this year’s Galway Comedy Festival which runs in the city from Tuesday, October 25, to Monday, October 31.
Bobby Davro is a man of many parts – comedian, actor, impressionist, singer – who has featured on EastEnders and Celebrity Big Brother
But it’s his reputation as a joke machine that should draw audiences to the Town Hall Theatre for his show, Taking the Mimic, on Wednesday, October 26.
One of England’s most versatile and experienced comedians, he made his TV debut in 1981, but his major breakthrough came with an appearance on ITV’s Saturday night variety show, Live at Her Majesty’s, in 1983.
That was a turning point for the Surrey man who went on to host his own TV series, Copycats, as well as On the Box and the Bobby Davro Show, among others.
A few years later he had a brief, but memorable stint on EastEnders, playing the loveable rogue Vinny Monks.
In more recent times, he has been a regular on reality TV shows, coming fourth in Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother in 2015. He took part in Dancing on Ice and Come Dine With Me, and raised funds for the charity ‘Kids ‘n’ Cancer’ by taking part on ITV’s Your Face Sounds Familiar.
