A Galway-based choir is set to take group singing to a different level this Sunday, February 8, as more than 100 ordinary voices join forces for a show at the city’s Town Hall Theatre.
The Born To Rise choir, directed by Dr Caren Hession, consists of people from all walks of life from across Galway City and County who have taken part in a 12-week journey to find their voice.
They will be performing three songs onstage as part of the Born To Rise Showcase, which takes place at 6.30pm on Sunday.
Performing along with 32 solo acts, the group will be backed by a full house band as they sing their three songs.
According to their director, the aim is to help others in the audience to find their voice and unleash their inner potential.
One participant says that taking part in this unique project has “given me such a boost of confidence. I am really enjoying sharing it with so many wonderfully positive and supportive individuals”.
The Town Hall show is the concluding event of a one-of-a-kind self-development programme called Born To Rise, which leads participants on a journey to find themselves and their voice, literally and metaphorically, through music.
“Music is such a powerful tool for growth and healing because it forces you to have a real-time relationship with yourself, something that’s so often missing in today’s society,” according to Dr Hession. “It also is the glue that connects us together and reminds us what true community spirit is all about,” she adds.
