In an effort to reduce their environmental impact and striving to incorporate more sustainable living practices, the owners of Robin’s Nest – set in an idyllic location in Rosscahill – have made welcome eco additions to their home over the last number of years…including the installation of 16 solar panels two years ago.
The system has been a game changer for them, providing electricity for the house, heating the water tank while also exporting surplus electricity to the grid – to the point that the owners have not had to pay for electricity since 2022 and the electricity account is in credit!
The rear garden also provides a renewable source of fresh produce with organic fruit and vegetable garden which provide crops for the house such as Irish heritage varieties of kale, broccoli, apples, raspberries, strawberries and suedes.
Rainwater, harvested from the roof, is used to water both the crops in the garden and also a large 30 ft x 13 ft polytunnel located at the rear of the garden is used to grow tomatoes and cucumbers and to extend the growing season for other vegetables. The owners also have composting facilities aiding in the healthy crop produce.
Robin’s Nest with its south facing cottage garden is a wildlife haven with heritage roses, perennials and summer annuals making it an ideal place to relax and unwind.
The rear garden is enclosed by fencing and a mature hedge which offers both privacy and security whilst the mature large mixed border bed in the front garden provide a warm welcome home as you enter the property.
