Ten music gigs planned for Galway Airport this summer could net a ‘cash cargo’ of €100,000 for the site’s owners.
Details of the draft agreement between Galway County Council – which owns the site with Galway City Council – and MCD Promotions, reveal the potential money-spinner the Carnmore concerts would be.
Director of Services, Liam Hanrahan said there was a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with MCD to host ten concerts at the airport between August 9 and 29.
The financial arrangement to be finalised with the local authorities is to be the greater of two options.
Option one, is a flat rental fee of €50,000 over ten nights; and option two is a fee of €2.50 per ticket sold, which would work out at around €100,000 at 75%-100% of the 5,000 allowable capacity per concert.
Free tickets will be given to residents of Carnmore, according to briefing documents circulated to elected members.
In addition to any fees paid to the County Council, MCD will have to cover the ancillary costs including what’s due to Gardaí and HSE.
The Wolfe Tones, Waterboys, Pixies, Coronas and Fatboy Slim are among the acts already announced for Galway Airport this August.
