Despite the oppressive heatwave last summer, apparently four in five of us are planning a holiday in 2024. So, where to go, with more destinations than ever to choose from. Asia is the place of choice according to Tripadvisor’s Top 2024 Destinations as voted by the global users of their app.
Asia secures four of the top ten places in the world, with Dubai top of the list for the third year running.
This is followed by Bali at No. 2, while London takes third place in the world and comes out No. 1 in Europe. Edinburgh misses out on a world spot, but makes it into the Top Destinations in Europe at No. 12.
The top ten destinations in Europe were London, Rome, Paris, Crete in Greece, Istanbul in Turkey, Barcelona followed by Madrid in Spain, then Lisbon, capital of Portugal, followed by Amsterdam in The Netherlands and Florence in Italy.
But which destinations will be good value and not overrun by tourists but have that charm we all seek out while out foreign?
After a trawl of magazines and travel websites, here are a selection of short-haul destinations that may be worth checking out for 2024.
Prices for all-inclusive packages in Turkey have dropped with a devaluing Turkish lira, which may make a family holiday in a good quality for or five-star hotel an affordable possibility this year. Coastal resorts such Marmaris, Bodrum and Dalyan are the ones which seem to cater best for West Europeans but be open minded about venturing to other lesser-known resorts.
