There are currently 19 hotels in Galway with Government contracts to provide accommodation to Ukrainian refugees who are fleeing the war in their country.
The Department of Integration has confirmed that the 19 hotels providing beds to accommodate Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTP) have capacity for 1,072 people.
Three former nursing homes in Galway, with capacity to accommodate 449 people, are also being used to house refugees from Ukraine.
The remaining property types being used for BOTP since the Russian war on Ukraine commenced include one Galway hostel, nine bed and breakfasts, twelve guesthouses, four holiday villages with holiday homes, and ten other types of property including five ‘non-standard’.
The local hostel has capacity for 82; the B&Bs can house 276; the guest houses have capacity for 555; and the holiday village shave capacity for 125. More than 800 people can be accommodated in the remaining ten properties.
Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman confirmed the figures to Galway West TD, Catherine Connolly.
