Price is one of the standard reasons why many would-be car buyers are not yet convinced to take the jump to electric vehicles. Thankfully there is now some value out there if you look in the right direction. MG’s latest MG4 long range model is a good example of a more affordable EV for those who want to ditch petrol or diesel in favour of the greener option.
Recently I’ve had the pleasure of its company and was generally impressed with many aspects of the car. Full mark go the designers for a delivering a really attractive car, full of character and kerb appeal. The interior is also well presented and proved to be an agreeable abode for the full week of test driving.
Of course the other conundrum for EV car makers is the range that the car will do from fully charged, how long it takes to recharge and what is the most efficient means of topping up the batteries.
MG tell us that the 64kW/h battery has a range of up to 450km. Let’s be honest and tell you, no more than any other electric car, that number is not attainable in real life. The actual range that I managed without exerting the car to aggressive driving is more like 320km. That’s still an ok number and is more than acceptable for your average car user.
Power comes from a 150kWh motor plus a 61.7kWh battery driving the rear wheels which is another set-up that I do like. If you are out and about and need to make use of a rapid charger, it will charge from ten percent to 85 percent of the battery in just 35 minutes.
