The Halloween edition of A Modern Movement is set to take place this Sunday, October 29. Away from its usual home in the Loft Venue, the alternative club night is moving to Áras na nGael for a costumed, indie line-up that features Back to Winnipeg, Rural Savage, Wren Boy and headliners Bury Me with My Money.
A synth-friendly, electronic rock band, Bury Me with My Money is the brainchild of Ballyglass, Co Mayo, native Tomás Concannon. The four-piece are informed by a wide range of electro-rock influences but fundamental to their sound, regardless of genre, is a consideration for dancing.
Their newest single, Power of Flight, was released in August and saw the group return to a more straightforward, rhythmic and guitar-driven style. It is likely to be a cornerstone of their set in the Áras, which will mark night two of Bury Me with My Money’s winter tour.
“We did a festival a couple of weeks ago in Achill and that was great craic,” Tomás recalls.
“We’re getting back into the swing of things now after festival season and going indoors. We’re looking forward to playing in the Áras to be honest.
“The last time we were there was just before the summer. We put on our own show there and we actually wrote a song about that night that we’re going to play on Sunday. It’s all about the westside of Galway and particularly Áras na nGael, and how it’s become a bit of a haven for the alternative in Galway.”
Over the last couple of years, John O’Connor has built A Modern Movement into one of Galway’s most established original music nights. For acts on his bills, there is a great comfort in having a dedicated and passionate promoter willing to bear the brunt of the organisation and preparation.
“It takes a load of weight off our shoulders to be honest,” Tomás explains.
