Gardaí have made ‘considerable progress’ in their investigation of an alleged sexual assault and false imprisonment in the city earlier this summer.
A file is being prepared for forwarding to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the complaint made by the woman, who is understood to be her early 30s.
The alleged victim of the assault – understood to be from outside the country – had been living in the Menlo area for some time.
The incident dates back to the middle of June when the woman was offered a lift by a passing motorist in the Menlo area.
Following the incident, the woman made a complaint to Gardaí, alleging that she was sexually assaulted and falsely imprisoned for a number of hours in the car she was being carried in.
Gardaí are understood to have viewed extensive CCTV footage from a number of households in the Menlo area in their investigation of the complaint.
Over recent weeks, a man in his early-30s was interviewed by Gardaí in relation to the complaint – he was questioned under Sections 2 and 4 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1990.
“The alleged incident has been the subject of a major Garda investigation. We have interviewed one male in relation to the complaint we received and a file is being prepared for forwarding to the DPP,” said the Garda spokesperson.
