Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle with Denise McNamara
The second season of the Sex And The City spin-off has just ended, with a third series belatedly commissioned. While the sex on And Just Like That may not have been anywhere as titillating without the incomparable Samantha, the fashion certainly did not disappoint.
While I found the forced ‘wokeness’ extremely irritating, it felt really nice to revisit what Carrie, played by regular Donegal resident Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are up to their 50s.
They were warm friends indeed while whiling away the long hours on forced rest before the arrival of my first baby due to symphysis pubis dysfunction – the complete box set was a fab maternity gift from work colleagues.
Under the direction of costume designer duo, Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago, bags play a huge role once again in this spin-off. Carrie’s Fendi baguette is back, which was memorably stolen by a mugger in season three of the show. These things cost over €4,000 new.
That priceless episode came to mind when new character Seema has her Hermès Birkin bag stolen. These are the most expensive bags in fashion history – one sold for over €2 million – and were recently in the news after the death of Jane Birkin who inspired the design. Even the most clueless mugger would surely not ditch a bag which retails for over €10,000 in favour of cigarettes and cash.
The craziest bag tag must go to the replica of a pigeon made by Irish designer JW Anderson, which costs €690. Carrie wears it with a dull grey boiler suit.
