Ford Ireland has provided more details of their new all-electric Explorer that will be arriving here in September. That’s when it goes on sale in Europe and in Ireland too where it will be priced from €42,120 with Government EV subsidies applied. This is a very competitive price when compared with others in the same bracket.
Ford are building the Explorer in Europe and says it can achieve an extremely competitive driving range of up to 602km on a single charge. Charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 28 minutes using up to a maximum 135 kW DC fast charging rate.
Here in Ireland, it will have single motor driving the rear wheels and is fitted with an extended-range, lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery chosen for its energy density, power and performance in European climates.
Explorer drivers across Europe can also easily access and pay for charging at more than 600,000 charge points within the BlueOval Charge Network using the FordPass app or innovative Plug & Charge technology.
These include high power charging stations from IONITY – a consortium of which Ford is a founder member, and Allego – with whom Ford today also announced a partnership to introduce high power charging points at Ford dealerships.
In the interior, Ford is promising approximately 450 litres of combined storage including the 17-litre MegaConsole and the secure My Private Locker in the cabin, every Explorer features SYNC Move connected infotainment with an adjustable 14.6-inch centre touchscreen that can be raised and lowered through an arc of more than 30 degrees.
A heated steering wheel and front seats, massaging driver’s seat and wireless phone charging are also standard; while cutting-edge interior design includes sports seats with integrated headrests, and a stylish soundbar to enjoy audio played through wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connected devices.
There will also be some higher specification cars with the Explorer Premium adding a 10-speaker B&O sound system and ambient interior lighting to keep spirits high on the road, as well as upgrading Explorer’s signature headlamps from LED with auto highbeam to Dynamic Matrix LED with Glare-Free Highbeam.
To make the purchase process as effortless as possible, ensure a luxury specification and deliver compelling value for every Explorer customer, optional extras are limited to a panorama roof with more than one square metre of glass surface, and a Driver Assist Pack. Its highlights include hands-free tailgate for accessing up to 450 litres of boot space with arms full of shopping or toddlers, a head-up display, 360-degree camera and new Assisted Lane Change technology.
“Ford wants to bring passion and emotion to electric vehicles in Europe – there are enough boring cars and SUVs out there. The new Explorer represents Ford’s unique character, which is stamped on every car in this fantastic convoy,” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford.
Commenting on the arrival of Explorer into Ireland in September, John Manning, Market Lead for Ford Ireland, said there was huge interest in the new model.
“There is already an extensive number of Ford Explorer fans in Ireland – since we launched our ‘Ford Explorer – keep me informed’ service through our ford.ie website last year, the number of interested customers has grown to 1,600 who signed up for our regular updates on the vehicle,” he said.
