Clarinbridge 1-21
Killimordaly 1-16
Eanna O’Reilly at Kenny Park
A 14-point haul from star forward Evan Niland steered Clarinbridge to victory over a Killimordaly side which dominated for long spells of this first round senior A hurling championship clash in Athenry on Saturday evening.
With 12 minutes left on the clock, Nigel Shaughnessy’s side held a four point lead and must have felt they were on the way to a notable first round victory.
Having been below par for much of the contest, the ‘Bridge clicked into gear during the game’s most decisive period. Jarlath Niland’s team hit 1-6 without reply, in a very impressive closing ten minutes, to see off the Killimordaly challenge.
In very difficult weather conditions, the sides produced an entertaining contest. Evan Niland pointed an early free, before Mike Daly sent over an impressive point from the right corner. Killimordaly responded with points from Mark Lally and Brian Concannon to get on level terms after ten minutes.
Josh Ryan soon put the ‘Bridge back in front, after a good pass from Mark Kennedy. Luke Lynskey was a lively presence in attack for Killimordaly, and he set up a score for Lally three minutes later.
