Druid’s Mick Lally Theatre is once again the venue for 3 Kinds of Music, the popular series curated by the community organisation MusicConnects and the Black Gate Cultural Centre.
It kicks off this Saturday, November 22, at 3pm with three separate acts; Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta, Kate Ellis, and Eoin Dolan.
Caoimhe and Séamus from Ard Móir in Carna, are no strangers to Galway audiences. They have gained acclaim for their sean-nós singing and unique arrangements of songs in Irish and English. They are also accomplished multi-instrumentalists, who keep their language and heritage at the heart of everything they do.
Their debut EP, Séamus & Caoimhe, released in 2023, was produced by Brian Whelan and Riverdance composer Bill Whelan. Séamus and Caoimhe received the 2024 RTÉ Folk Award for Best Emerging Artists.
Cellist Kate Ellis, who is Artistic Director of the Crash Ensemble and cellist with Martin Hayes’ Common Ground Ensemble will take listeners on a musical adventure, pushing the boundaries of new and traditional work.
Finally, Galway producer and songwriter Eoin Dolan will perform his vintage psychedelic pop. Eoin combines sublime and sometimes heartbreaking melody with lush instrumentation and songwriting finesse to create his vintage musical sound.
Eoin has self-released eight records and produced work for Field Trip, New Pope and Me Auld Flower. His latest release, The Most Important Thing Is Peace Within Yourself, is available now on Rón Records.
After this Saturday’s concert, there will be a sean-nós workshop with Séamus and Caoimhe, hosted by MusicConnects. That 90-minute session will begin at 5pm in the Mick Lally, and all levels are welcome. There’s limited availability for this.
The 3 Kinds of Music series is free and family-friendly, and donations are welcome. Booking is not required but people are advised to arrive early.
Admission to the workshop with Séamus and Caoimhe is by donation and the suggested amount is €10. Booking for that is via Eventbrite.ie.
The 3 Kinds of Music series will continue on Saturday, December 20, with a fresh lineup for the festive season.
