Fionn agus Clochán an Aifir (Fionn and the Giant’s Causeway), a new interpretation of the age-old legend about how the Giant’s Causeway was created, is being presented by Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc from this Thursday until Saturday, December 23.
Written and directed by Séamus Hughes, the family show continues the company’s mythological series, and Séamus describes the process of putting the play together as “a magical journey.”
Irish hero Fionn Mac Cumhaill and his friends in Na Fianna travel through time to return to the city theatre, where audiences can discover what happens when he encounters Benandonnar, the Giant of Scotland.
Fionn is expecting to meet somebody like himself but Benandonnar is the complete opposite. With the war goddess Morrígan in full flight, and conflict in the air, Fionn must watch out for his safety and ensure he knows who his real friends are.
But, above all, he has to face one crucial question: “Why the Scottish war pipes?!”
Séamus is promising a production full of craic and live music as Conamara company Fíbín continue their residency in An Taibhdhearc.
The cast of this Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc show includes Myles Feerick as Fionn Mac Cumhaill, Molly Mew as Sadhbh and Fíona, Mícheál Ó Fearraigh as the giant Benandonnar and Ann Marie Horan and Morrígan and the therapist.
Séamus praises the cast, “who have “put their hearts and their talent into every rehearsal” and says it has been “an honour to work with them”.
Fionn agus Clochán an Aifir will be staged this Friday night, December 8 at 7.30pm. It’s on at 2.30pm and 7.30pm this Saturday and Sunday.
