A host of familiar faces and acclaimed writers will join with audience participants for a unique weekend of Storytelling & Improvisation, taking place across Galway city and county – and online – at the start of next month.
The Moth & Butterfly International Festival of Storytelling & Improvisation, which runs from February 3 to 5, is the culmination of twelve years of regular monthly events in Galway, as well as collaborations with festivals and events globally.
And now, following two successful digital and hybrid festivals in 2021 and 2022, they are thrilled to now bring their very first fully live festival to Galway and beyond.
“This year I feel like we have a favourite sweet for everyone in the Moth & Butterfly box, including improvisational theatre events, children’s story time, virtual global story chain, a music workshop and an evocative audio experience in the Connemara landscape – make all the room for your delicious storytelling desserts!” said Artistic Director Órla Mc Govern.
The name Moth & Butterfly takes inspiration from different types of storytelling and artistic expression showcased throughout the festival.
‘Moth’ style stories are short, true, thematic, and feature the teller themselves as the central character – a homage to the wonderful ‘Moth’ personal storytelling movement.
And improvised stories will be created fresh on the spot – no two are the same! Different improvisational formats include: ‘Stories From The Hat’ (where the audience or guest picks an object for the story) and ‘Found In Translation’ (where the tellers improvise and translate bilingually).
