Far Calls, a 20-minute film, written and directed by Tristan Heanue and Olwen Fouéré, that was commissioned by Clifden Arts Festival and screened at the event last September, has been selected for the Oscar-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival, which will take place in the US State next month. It was chosen from over 7,050 submissions from more than 98 countries.
Far Calls, which was inspired by segments of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, was filmed in Connemara, in Tristan’s home area of the Aughrus Peninsula and Renvyle.
It features Cleggan actress Olwen Fouéré – who has long been renowned for her interpretations of the works of Joyce and Samuel Beckett – and Stephen Heanue.
Fusing Joycean text with the Connemara landscape, this film about life and death was also chosen for the Dublin Film Festival earlier this year.
The Rhode Island film festival will take place from August 7-13.
