Alain McFadden is best known for his work as a long-time member of award-winning folk group Ye Vagabonds. In that role, the Galway native has forged a role at the heart of an Irish folk scene that has produced an ever-wider array of talent over the last decade. Now, the multi-instrumentalist is embarking on a new project to further establish himself as a songwriter.
Under the moniker of All the Brave Hunters, Alain recently released a debut single. Rising is a delicate track that showcases his ability as a fingerpicking guitarist as well as a gifted lyricist.
He collaborated with producer and colleague Brían Mac Gloinn (of Ye Vagabonds), vocalist Elva Carroll and producer/engineer Nick Rayner in the making of this and four other tracks set to feature on an EP in March of next year.
“It’s been in the works for a while,” Alain says of his new project.
“I recorded these songs before lockdown, and I’ve been trying to get them out since. It’s just a case of timing and making all the pieces fit together but it’s been a few years in the making… It’s really nice to be steering your own ship and to have that personal connection to the songs.
“Bringing them to people to play them with you as well, and seeing them come to life, is really exciting. For me, it’s a very rounded experience when I get to sing the songs with people. My spirit is moving forward or something. There have been really good nights.
