World record bid to go viral with Fields of Athenry on St Patrick’s Day

Fields of Athenry...Kamil Krolak and Philip Cribbin prepare to go viral again.

The people behind the viral success that was The Galway Girl video three years ago are back again – and this time, their focus has shifted to Athenry, or its fields, more specifically.

In 2016, KamilFilms brought together 15,000 people on the streets of Galway to film the world’s biggest performance of Galway Girl with Sharon Shannon and Mundy.

That video has notched up an impressive five million hits since it was first released and now, they are hoping to recreate that success with a recording of The Fields of Athenry.

With full details of the project due by the end of the month, the process of building another viral sensation begins this weekend – with the call out for people around the world to record themselves, their family and friends – and anyone who knows the words – singing The Fields of Athenry on St Patrick’s Day.

KamilFilms then want that footage posted on any social media outlet with the hashtag #MyFieldsOfAthenry by March 20 where it will be edited to form what they have called “the first truly global video of The Fields of Athenry”.

Athenry resident Kamil Krolak and his creative partner, Philip Cribbin, are behind the project and speaking to the Connacht Tribune, Philip said they want to see what St Patrick’s Day means for Irish people across the world.
