From the Galway City Tribune – The average hourly wage of men at City Hall is lower than that of women in Galway City Council’s workforce.

That’s among the main findings of the local authority’s Gender Pay Gap report for 2022.

The mean gender pay gap of the workforce at College Road shows that on average, the mean rate of pay for women is 7% higher than the mean rate of pay for men.

The median gender pay gap shows that the median rate of pay of women is 14% higher than the median rate of pay for men working in Galway City Council.

Analysis of the pay scales of staff at the Council shows that there are more men working in pay bands one and two, which have lower grades of pay.

The male-to-female split in the two higher pay grades is more even, and this is reflected in the overall gender pay gap stats.

Employers with more than 250 workers are now required to publish their gender gap data annually.

Publishing the figures “helps to reinforce our focus on supporting an open and inclusive workplace”, a City Council spokesperson said.

“Our organisation is a place where all employees have the same opportunities for recognition and career development and are treated fairly and equitably at work.

“We continue to be committed to addressing workplace barriers to equality and creating an open and inclusive workplace community,” the spokesperson added.
