WHAT’S wrong now with the use of slurry dribble bars? – that’s the question being asked by farmers with that piece of equipment being excluded from the new TAMS 3 list of eligible investments.
While the new €370 million TAMS 3 (Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme) has been welcomed by farming representatives, the exclusion of dribble bars from the grants is a riddle that farmers want an answer to.
Galway IFA Rural Development Representative Peter Gohery said that the removal of dribble bars from the TAMS 3 list was ‘a glaring omission’ as this piece of equipment had been hugely popular with farmers in the TAMS 2 scheme.
“Trailing shoes are not suitable for use on many smaller farms. Removing dribble bars will now force those farmers to use contractors who are already overstretched at key slurry-spreading times of the year,” said Peter Gohery.
He said it ‘beggared belief’ that Government had grant-aided dribble bars for farmers in derogation to meet their mandatory obligations using Low Emissions Slurry Spreading (LESS) – but were now excluding them.
