Water disruption warning for Headford town

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Homes and businesses in the town of Headford may experience water disruption today due to a major leak.
Galway County Council and Irish Water has sent a crew to the site of the leak at the Shrule Road.
It’s hoped the leak will be fixed by this afternoon (3pm) and a full water supply will be restored.
In the meantime, temporary traffic lights are in place until the repair work is complete.

Appeal lodged over refusal of Ballinasloe housing development (News 4)

Galway Bay fm newsroom- An appeal has been lodged with An Bord Pleanala over the refusal of a minor housing development in Ballinasloe.

The developer had applied to build six homes on an infill residential site in the existing Cuil Na Canalacht estate.

But county planners rejected the plan, finding it would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainability development of the area.

An appeal has now been lodged with An Bord Pleanala and a decision is due in January.

Galway Bay fm newsroom- Local TD Michael Fitzmaurice says the EU threatening Ireland with legal action over turf cutting is a “step in the wrong direction”

The European Commission said unless action is taken to half the cutting of peat within Special Areas of Conservation, the state could be brought before the European Court of Justice.

It noted Ireland’s efforts so far but said the enforcement of bans appears to have stalled.

‘Elf Town’ to return to Galway Racecourse with 200 seasonal jobs

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Elf Town has confirmed it’s returning to Galway this Christmas – and says it’ll create over 200 seasonal jobs.

The festive experience, which takes place at Galway Racecourse, is currently recruiting actors and event staff.

It’s billed as a magical 2 hour journey across 4 floors in 3 different buildings, including a visit with Santa.

Tickets for the event are available to book now, with shows taking place from November 23rd.
