Galway Bay fm newsroom – Vodafone has switched on its 4G services for smartphones in six cities across the country, including Galway.
4G delivers faster data speeds than the 3G network.
Vodafone is the second phone operator to roll out 4G in the Irish market.
It has also rolled out the service to 31 towns in the South East and South West of the country.
Local TD says parents not sending kids to school should have child benefit cut
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local TD says parents who are not sending their kids to school should face cuts to their child benefit payments.
Deputy Denis Naughten says new figures show Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, has sent warning letters to nearly 3,000 parents over the past seven years, over the issue.
He has stressed that the issue has nothing to do with children who are sick, or have other legitimate reasons to be absent.
Speaking to Galway Talks, the Roscommon/Galway TD says it’s time for tougher action against parents who refuse to send their kids to school for no good reason.
HSE capital plan confirms €9.3m investment for various projects underway at Portiuncula Hospital
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE Capital Plan has confirmed a €9.3 million investment for various projects underway at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly announced over €1 billion under the HSE Capital Plan for 2022 for the construction and equipping of healthcare facilities nationwide.
At the East Galway facility, this involves a number of live projects including the new 50 bed unit in Portiuncula, with enabling works now complete.
It also involves the repurposing of the outpatients area at the main hospital, and additional space to accommodate a long awaited CT scanner.
Local Fine Gael Senator Aisling Dolan says it’s much-needed funding to support the excellent healthcare teams who have been working in a hospital dating from the 1940’s with multi-bed wards.
File for DPP after Garda drug seizure in east of city
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions following a drug seizure in the east of the city.
Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit searched a premises on the east side of the Galway city yesterday (May 25).
Quantities of suspected cannabis, cocaine and MDMA, with a combined value of 13,000 euro were seized in the course of the search, along with €2,330 in cash.
A man in his 20’s was arrested at the scene.
He was detained for questioning under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, at the North Western HQ, on the Dublin Road.
The man has since been released and a file will now be prepared for the DPP.
All of the drugs seized will now be sent for further analysis.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
