Victim afraid to go out in the dark following assault Victim afraid to go out in the dark following assault

By Ronan Judge

The alleged victim of an assault in Galway’s Millennium Park has told a court he no longer goes out when it is dark and suffers anxiety since the incident.

Mark King told Galway District Court he now had a false tooth and some other teeth were chipped following the alleged attack in 2022.

In the case, Adam McCullough (24), with an address at 61 Airlie Heights, Lucan, County Dublin, is charged with assault causing harm to Mark King at Millennium Park on September 2, 2022.

The offence is contrary to section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.

Judge Fiona Lydon previously asked to hear from Mr King in order to decide jurisdiction of the case — whether it should be heard in the District Court or sent forward to the Circuit Court

Mr King said he now has a false tooth and the estimated cost of replacing it every five to 10 years is €1,000.

He said he doesn’t go for a run when it is dark and feels he is missing out on occasions with friends.

Judge Lydon noted that it was alleged Mr King received a number of punches and had swelling around his eyes.

Judge Lydon accepted jurisdiction to hear the case in the District Court and thanked Mr King for coming to court. She directed all statements be given to defence solicitor, Sean Acton, and adjourned the case to January 19.
