Up to 40 psychiatric nurses protest outside UHG

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Up to 40 people have gathered at University Hospital Galway this lunchtime to call on the government to recognise the needs of mental health services at the hospital.
The protest is being led by the Psychiatric Nurses Association.
Staff at the acute psychiatric unit are staging the demonstration over what they’re describing as inadequate staffing levels at the 45-bed unit.
They claim that a lack of appropriate staff is putting both employees and patients at risk.

Plans lodged for 28 homes at Letteragh Road

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Plans have been lodged for a development of 28 homes at Letteragh Road on the west side of the city.

The project is led by Callanan & Walsh Construction Co. Limited and would be based at a site near existing estates along the road.

It would be a mix of single and two-bed apartments across three seperate blocks.

City planners are due to make a decision in July

All corners of Galway hosting events for Cruinniú na nÓg

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Events will be hosted across all corners of Galway to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg this weekend.

The National Day of Creativity for Young People is being held tomorrow, with over 700 free events scheduled around the country.

It’s a collaboration between the Arts and Culture Department, the Creative Ireland Prorgamme, Galway County Council and RTÉ.

Cruinniú na nÓg is a one-day event, designed to empower young people to develop their creative potential.

Some of the highlights include a street peformance in Tuam, a drumming session in Oughterard and a dance and music workshop in Lettermore.

The tech side of creativity will also be represented with Lego Robotics and Coding Workshops in Moycullen and Carraroe.

A variety of artists will visit nine different refugee centres, offering workshops in print-making, circus skills, kite-making and music.

Libraries in Ballinasloe, Loughrea, Oranmore, Carraroe and Tuam will also host a variety of free activities.

New Martin Junction to officially open next week

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – After months of delays and immense frustration for motorists, the new Martin Junction near the Galway Clinic is finally set to open next week.

It brings to an end a long-running saga that began in January 2022 and was originally expected to be completed that August.

The lights will now be officially commissioned on Wednesday, June 13th, at 11am.
