Galway Bay fm newsroom – A new political alliance is putting forward candidates to contest Galway West and Galway East in the upcoming general election.
The DDI-NCM alliance is a merger between Direct Democracy Ireland and the National Citizens Movement.
Ruairi O’ Neill will stand for election in Galway West, bring the total number of candidates in the five seat constituency to 20.
The 57 year old first-time candidate is a silversmith and jewellery designer by profession.
He says job creation in the west of Ireland is among his priorities.
Meanwhile, Aengus Melia from Tuam is putting his name forward for DDI-NCM in Galway East.
It brings the number of candidates contesting the three seat constituency to 9.
The 37 year old factory worker says it’s time to bring democracy to the people.
New temporary Emergency Department to open at UHG in coming weeks
GBFM Newsroom – A new temporary Emergency Department is set to open at UHG in the coming weeks.
The temporary unit is needed for the construction of a major new block at the hospital, incorporating a brand new permanent emergency department as well as maternity services.
However, that project is still at a very early stage – meaning the new temporary ED will likely be in place for a number of years.
A meeting of the Health Forum West this week heard that it’s expected the unit will open in the coming weeks.
Councillor John Connolly spoke after the meeting.
Anger over exclusion of Ballinasloe representatives at meeting with Drew Harris
GBFM News – It’s deeply unfair that there was no representation from Ballinasloe at a recent meeting with Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
That’s according to Councillor Declan Geraghty, who raised the matter at a meeting of the local district.
Commissioner Harris met with the County Joint Policing Committee recently, to discuss a new policing model for Galway, as well as local concerns.
The current membership of the JPC doesn’t include any representatives from the Ballinasloe district.
That’s something Councillor Geraghty says is not right.
Galway has new half-a-millionaire after Euromillions draw
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway player has scopped half a million euro in the latest EuroMillions Plus draw.
McCanns Centra in Moycullen sold the winning ticket yesterday.
The winning numbers were 23, 32, 35, 42, 50.
Players in the county are being urged to check their tickets and make contact with the National Lottery team.
