The Marian Choral Society’s 47th production, The Clockmaker’s Daughter, will run for five nights in Tuam this month.
The Society officially launched the production in Reapy’s in Tuam on Friday last, when Chairman Norman Quinn thanked the production team of director-choreographer Aoife McClafferty and musical director Shane Farrell, for their hard work and commitment in shaping another Marian Choral Society musical.
Norman also thanked the committee for their work throughout the year, especially in the run-up to the show. That involved organising fundraisers, as well as taking on ‘behind the scenes’ responsibilities.
And he thanked the sponsor Seamie Walsh Pharmacy.
The Clockmaker’s Daughter is a powerful show, with music and lyrics by Michael Webborn and Daniel Finn.
Set in the late 19th century, this original fairytale is located in a small, fictional Irish town called Spindlewood.
Spindlewood is home to Abraham Reed a talented clockmaker. Distraught after the untimely death of his young daughter, Abraham sets about capturing her image in clockwork.
This involves building a young girl who is so real that even he is unable to fathom her making. On winding her up, Abraham realises he has created something more than a machine. Constance, as he names her, can move, talk and think.
Emily Uí Cheallaigh returns to the Marian Choral Society in the lead role of Constance, as the group welcomes Niall Caulfield who takes on the role of Will Riley. No stranger to the MCS stage, Alana Mullins will play the virtuous and level-headed Amelia Kelly, with Brian Flanagan in the role of Abraham Reed.
Local talent Suzanne Garvey, Norman Quinn and Stephen Leo return as Ma’ Riley, Mayor Glynn and Henry Glynn.
The show has numerous featured roles, being played by existing and new members of the Society (Mary Newell, Aileen Kirrane, Hannah Rhattigan, Kate MacDonnell, Hannah Wright, Katie Feeney, Niamh McSweeney, Jennifer Burns, Ruadhán Gormally, Mervyn Fahy, Jonathan Newman, Paul Singleton, Enda Mulchrone and Ethan McNea).
The cast have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks and no musical would be complete without an ensemble; the extremely hard-working group of talented people supporting the front line.
The Marian Choral Society is delighted to bring the western premiere of The Clockmaker’s Daughter to Tuam and Galway.
It will run from Tuesday, October 28, to Saturday, November 1, in St Jarlath’s College Hall, at 8pm nightly.
■ Tickets are €24 (plus booking fee), with a discounted rate of €20 (plus booking fee) on opening night only. These can be purchased online at www.marianchoraltuam.com.
