A Tuam man has been sentenced to 3 years in prison with the final year suspended for threatening to kill a Garda.
21 year old Tommie Quinn, of 133 Parkmore Estate, Tuam, pleaded guilty at Galway Circuit Criminal Court to threatening to kill Detective Pat Shannon with the sword on March 24 last year.
The detective was forced to produce his gun when Quinn threatened to cut his head off with a sword following a drink and drugs fuelled binge.
A probation report indicated he was now off all drugs and was receiving counselling while in prison.
Judge Raymond Groarke sentenced him to three years in prison with the final year suspended on condition he come under the care of the Probation Service.
