The funeral will take place this morning (Thursday) of 11-year-old Bridget Ward, who tragically lost her life after being hit by a car while out cycling.

The popular Eglish National School pupil was out cycling with her brother Paddy (8) when they were struck by a passing vehicle at 11.55am on Easter Sunday – the car flipped on its side after it hit a ditch.

Both were admitted to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where Bridget was pronounced dead, while young Paddy was treated for some head injuries and was released earlier this week.

The car was occupied by two males and two females, all in their mid-20s, from the general area.

Garda enquiries are continuing into the cause of the collision and officers have conducted a number of interviews.
