A Galway Chartered Physiotherapist has been elected as Chairman to one of the largest medical representative bodies in the World.
Esther-Mary D’Arcy will head up the European Region of the World Confederation for Physiotherapy.
This is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation representing the physiotherapy profession at European level covering 180,000 physiotherapists in 39 Physiotherapy Associations from 39 countries – made up from EU Member States, EEA countries and all the EU applicant countries.
It is the first time ever an Irish person has been elected to this position and she now joins another Irish chartered physiotherapist TCD’s Dr Emma Stokes, the first ever Irish person to become President of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy, as one of two of the most powerful and influential leaders in the physiotherapy world who will be liaising with Government and health leaders on physiotherapy and representative matters.
Ms D’Arcy who is a former President and the current Professional Adviser of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists is from Killeenaran near Kilcolgan and she was elected to a four year term at a recent General Meeting in Dublin of the ER-WCPT by the 36 Member Organisations who attended.
