Galway Bay fm newsroom – A timeline has been set out for the delivery of a new 1,000 pupil school for Clarin College in Athenry.
The timeline for the project follows a meeting between representatives of Clarin College and officials at the Department of Education.
A planning application for the new school will be lodged in early January and the project is expected to go to tender in May.
The school would then be ready to open in time for September 2019.

14,962 additional cases of Covid-19 reported in Ireland
Galway Bay FM Newsroom – The Department of Health have confirmed an additional 14,962 cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.
10,753 new cases were detected by PCR tests and 4,209 positive antigen tests were logged online.
It’s a significant drop on the highest recorded daily figure of over 26,000, which was reported on January 8th.
The number of people with Covid-19 in hospital has risen slightly to 965, an increase of 25 while there are 88 patients with the virus in ICU.
The five day moving average now stands at 18,360 – down from 19,226 yesterday.
LISTEN: Forum Connemara launches Want to Work Programme tomorrow afternoon
Galway Bay FM Newsroom – The launch of Forum Connemara’s Want to Work programme will take place virtually tomorrow afternoon at 3.30pm.
The ‘Want to Work’ programme works towards building an inclusive workforce by supporting people with Disabilities or Mental Health Conditions and will provide core employment skills training such as Manual Handling, Health and Safety in the Workplace, Covid Induction training and a bespoke ‘World of Work’ employment skills training programme.
It will also offer industry tailored training.
The project works with participants who are 18+, who have a disability or a mental health condition and is funded through the measure to ‘Support the Employment of People with Disabilities’ under the Dormant Accounts Fund Action Plan for 2021 by the Department of Social Protection.

LISTEN: County Councillors conclude review of draft County Development Plan
Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Galway’s 39 County Councillors and officials have concluded their review of the draft County Development Plan for the next six years.
The blueprint covering the period from 2022 to 2028 spans over 1300 pages with 2,877 submissions received.
The deadline was midnight Thursday as part of the two year statutory process with the amended plan going out on public display again late February.
