Three rescued in overnight operation on Connemara mountain

Galway Bay Fm newsroom – Three mountain climbers were rescued after they got into difficulties in the Maumturk Mountains in Connemara late last night.
At 11pm Galway Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Gardaí to locate and rescue the party of 3 people on rough terrain near Loch Mam Ochoige in the Maumturk Mountains.
The Team responded quickly and located the hill party using SARLOC technology whereby their smartphone assisted in determining their location and brought them to safety around 3:00 am today.

Gardai in Galway to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the foundation of An Garda Síochána tomorrow

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Gardaí in Galway will commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the foundation of An Garda Síochána with a commemorative event tomorrow afternoon.

The event will begin with a re-enactment of the arrival of the first Gardaí to Galway, on 25th September 1922.

Members of the public are invited to come along and join them in this Centenary Event.

Sergeant Mick Walsh of Galway Gardai explained to John Mulligan what will happen tomorrow afternoon.

John then put it to him that this celebration is significant as what happened 100 years ago and the change over from the RIC and the Civic Guard to An Garda Síochána was important in the development of Ireland as a country.

Local traffic diversions will be in place to facilitate the event.

Delegation meets with local Fianna Fail representatives to voice their concern over future of Clifden District Hospital

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – A delegation has met with Deputy Eamon O’Cuiv and Fianna Fail Councillor Gerry King to voice their concern over the future of Clifden District Hospital.

Families were contacted by the HSE yesterday, informing them that respite services will not be available from next week.

Instead, they’re being told they will have to avail of services at Merlin Park Hospital in Galway City.

It has been confirmed that HSE management are to meet with local representatives on Monday where the future of Clifden District Hospital will be discussed.

A public meeting on the future of the hospital will take place tomorrow afternoon.

Councillor Gerry King told John Mulligan what happened at the meeting this afternoon.

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – HSE management are to meet with local representatives on Monday where the future of Clifden District Hospital will be discussed.

Families were contacted by the HSE yesterday, informing them that respite services will not be available from next week.

Instead, they’re being told they will have to avail of services at Merlin Park Hospital in Galway City.

It’s understood the issue relates to lack of staff – Galway Bay FM News has contacted the HSE for clarification but as of this morning has not received a response.

Councillor Eileen Mannion also confirmed that a public meeting on the future of the hospital will take place tomorrow afternoon.
