So, at this stage we’ve all heard about the luggage mountains and huge queues for the luggage check-in desks at Dublin Airport, a headache that’s affecting airports in Heathrow, Manchester and top European destinations.
Only that we’ve been island-moored for two solid years, it would be enough to turn you off stepping onto a plane.
The next best step is to pack as lightly as you can and not check in your luggage.
That’s not the easiest feat if you’re travelling with kids.
At Easter we shared two large suitcases between four and checked them in. One went AWOL before we even got on the plane. It cost me a €100 taxi fare to get it back to me and only after multiple phone calls, emails, tweets and pleas on messenger. And a full five days with just the clothes on my back.
After that experience, I will either pay for a carry-on or pack like an overnighter.
A blogger recently rocked up huge hits when she revealed she had taken out the foam stuffing her of travel pillow and packed it with clothes. Another showed how she managed to squeeze in enough for a week’s holiday in an oversized handbag.
Ryanair charges hefty fees for onboard wheelie cases that can be stashed in the overhead lockers.
