West of Ireland sludge metal band, Ten Ton Slug, is heading south of the equator to perform at ‘Vulture Thrust: Anger Management Fest 2025’ in Maun, Botswana, on November 1 – with a warm-up show in Ghanzi, Botswana, on October 31.
The event is organised by Tshomarelo Mosaka (aka Vulture Thrust), a member of the band Overthrust, and a prominent event organiser in the region.
Vulture Thrust runs from 6pm to 6am in Ko Sedibeng bar in the Power Plant complex in Maun, in northern Botswana, and features metal bands from around the region alongside appearances from international bands.
The warm-up show takes place on October 31 in HillTalk Night Club in Ghanzi and runs from 10pm to 6am, featuring Overthrust, Ten Ton Slug, Obligado & Original Stars, and Ras Jesus.
Formed in Connemara, Ten Ton Slug play riff-filled sludge metal and has toured the UK, Europe and USA – supporting major acts in the genre including Black Label Society, Corrosion of Conformity, Goatwhore, Crowbar, Eyehategod, and many more.
The ‘Colossal Oppressor’ LP (featuring guest vocals from Karl Willetts of Memoriam/Bolt Thrower) released in May 2024 received a great response from fans and critics with the limited edition ‘Ooze’ vinyl selling out in less than a week.
This endeavour by Ten Ton Slug to play in Botswana has been made possible thanks to funding from Culture Ireland.
The band’s performance at the events will most likely mark the first-ever performance of a metal song in the Irish language in the country, as the song Mallacht an tSloda from 2024’s ‘Colossal Oppressor’ LP is entirely in Irish.
Ten Ton Slug will warm up for the November African shows with two Irish gigs in the coming months – Dali in Cork on September 20 and the Róisín Dubh in Galway on October 11.
Tickets for the Róisín Dubh are available on the venue’s website.
