Two of Galway’s finest – groundbreaking conductor Eímear Noone and former IRFU coaching director, Daragh Sheridan – will be the star attractions when TEDxGalway returns at 7.30pm next Thursday, November 13, to the Town Hall Theatre.
This time the focus is on the health science, arts & the media and will bring together local and international speakers to share their insights and inspire positive change within our community and beyond.
Eímear Noone from Kilconnell made history in 2020 as the first female conductor to perform at the 92nd Academy Awards.
She was nominated for an Ivor Novello award for Best Original Film Score and is renowned as one of the world’s leading composers of video game music.
Her work on World of Warcraft has reached over 100 million players, inspiring creativity for nearly fifteen years.
With over thirty film and game titles to her name, Eímear has earned multiple accolades, including the Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Video Game Score.
Daragh Sheridan, a native of Westside, began his career as a professional footballer with Aston Villa FC before returning to play for Galway United in the late 1990s.
He later transitioned into high-performance sport leadership roles with the IRFU and New Zealand Rugby.
As a sport psychologist and coaching leader, Daragh has supported Olympic-level athletes and collaborated with military, policing and corporate partners. He specialises in leadership development, coaching effectiveness and high-performance culture. They join a stellar line-up that, this time will have two themes.
Session I will focus on medical technology and the health sciences with talks from biotechnologist Gavin Collins, pain researcher Kevin Marray and from founders of Luminate Medical, Cathy O’Brien and Bárbara Oliveira.
Session II will look at Investigative Journalism with Mei-Ling McNamara; the world of TV with Paddy Duffy and Clare Murphy on storytelling.
Attendees will also have the chance to engage in Q&A sessions, share ideas, and connect with like-minded individuals throughout the event.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less).
TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment, and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages.
