Suspended prison sentence for cannabis possession in city

A man who was caught red-handed with a kilo of cannabis in the boot of his car has been given a suspended three-year sentence.
26 year old Lithuanian, Zydrunas Bendorius of An Creagan, Galway, who has been living and working here for seven years appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
Bendorius pleaded guilty to the possession of €12,000 worth of cannabis herb, which was found in two vacuum-packed bags in the boot of his car when it was stopped by Gardai at Briarhill on September 15, 2011.

60 jobs saved at city B&Q after company exits examinership

60 jobs have been saved at the city branch of B&Q, after the home improvements store successfully exited examinership.
Under the scheme, 2.4 million euro is to be invested by parent company Kingfisher plc, and B&Q will continue to trade at eight stores
This means 640 jobs have been saved nationwide, including 60 at the outlet in Knocknacarra.
B&Q Ireland filed a petition with the High Court in January seeking the appointment of an examiner.

Male pedestrian hit by car in city

A man in his 40s is being treated at University Hospital Galway after he was hit by a car on the Dublin road this afternoon.
The man was walking near the entrance to Merlin Park hospital at around 1:30 when the incident occured.
Emergency services attended the scene, and he was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Gardaí are advising motorists to expect delays as a stop-go system is now in place.

Mylan pharmacuetical comments on plans for Connemara investment

The European headquarters of a multinational pharmaceutical company has commented on its plans for a major expansion in Connemara.
Concern arose last month regarding a multi-million euro investment that was promised at the Bioniche Plant in Inverin in the Connemara Gaeltacht.
Mylan – the parent company – has confirmed it is on track to make promised investments in Ireland but no specific detail has been revealed.
