Suspects in Galway burglaries arrested near Dublin

Five people suspected of being involved in burglaries in Galway City and County in the past two weeks have been arrested North of Dublin and are currently being questioned at four Garda stations in Galway.

Two of the suspects are being held at Galway Garda Station, one each in Gort, Loughrea and Tuam Garda stations.

Gardai from Galway, assisted by a number of national units, Organised Crime Unit and Emergency Response Unit, arrested the four men and one woman last evening (Saturday 12th April).

It is understood that a quantity of power tools and other items were seizied by the Gardai during the arrests.

The four men, (aged 25 -30 years) and the one woman (mid 20s) were arrested in the Balbriggan area. They are all being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at the Galway Garda stations.

In recent weeks major robberies have taken place at a number of premises in Galway including Caulfields on the Tuam Road in the city, Roco, Mountbellew, Daybreak Early and Late Shop, Knockdoe, Claregalway, Duane’s near Athenry and several other business premises and at some private properties around the city and county.

21 million euro paid to nine and a half thousand Galway farmers

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Just over nine and a half thousand Galway farmers are this week receiving 21 million euro in grant aid

The allocation is being made under the Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC) scheme.

Galway based Senator Sean Kyne says this payment which represents 85% of the total payment due is an important boost to Galway farmers with contractor and other bills falling due

Senator Kyne says a number of payments are still being processed and will be paid later in the year subject to information being submitted or stocking rates achieved.

The Department of Agriculture has also confirmed that arrangements are being finalised to pay out 70% of the basic payment scheme on October 18th.

Irish Water and Galway City Council crews successfully repair major burst watermain in Galway City

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Irish Water and Galway City Council crews have successfully completed repairs to a burst watermain at the NUI Galway Campus.

The repairs were very complex due to the location of the burst on the NUIG Campus and the presence of many services over the watermain which had to be carefully excavated.

The repairs were completed at 6.30 this morning.

The watermain supplies the Clifton Hill and Tonabrucky reservoirs and affected customers in the west of the city including Knocknacarra, Barna, Moycullen and surrounding areas.

These area supplied from the Tonabruckey Reservoir may experience low pressure during the day and into the evening as reservoir levels recover.

In a statement released this morning, Irish Water said they understood the inconvenience when a burst occurs and thanked customers for their patience while work was ongoing to repair the burst and as normal supply is returned to impacted customers.
