Supermac’s boss calls for fairer prices for Irish farmers
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway-based company, Supermac’s is urging its Irish meat suppliers not to seek price increases, unless they agree to pass the benefits back to farmers.
Supermac’s founder, Galway businessman Pat McDonagh says meat costs have increased “year on year” yet the price being paid to the farmer is decreasing.

Garda appeal after string of serious vandalism in Ballybane

Galway Bay FM newsroom – Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a string of serious incidents of vandalism in Ballybane.
During one incident, a house was attacked with an axe – while in another, a car outside a house was set on fire.
The first incident happened at Glenbaun last Thursday, February 2nd, between the hours of 1 and 2am.
A grey Peugot 3008 parked outside a house was set on fire.
The next incident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning, Monday February 6th, at the Leas Na Coille estate.
At around 5am, the window of a house was smashed.
Later that evening in the same estate, at around 5pm, the front door of a house was damaged by a man with an axe.
The man had his face covered and fled the scene on foot.

Dáil hears concerns over vegan advertisements on buses in Galway City

Galway Bay FM newsroom – The Dáil has heard concerns over the appearance of vegan advertisements on buses in Galway City.
Deputy Mattie McGrath said he and other rural independents are very concerned about the ‘Go Vegan World’ ads, which have also appeared on Dublin Bus.
He branded them “misleading” and accused them of looking to demonise farmers and attack a way of life in rural Ireland.
Deputy McGrath wanted to know who’s responsible – and why these ads were allowed.

Slight dip in new car sales across Galway during January

Galway Bay fm newsroom – There was a slight dip in new car sales across Galway during January, compared to the same time last year.
There were 1186 new registrations last month – compared to an even 1,200 in January 2022.
Nationally, sales are up by 9 per cent – while electric vehicle sales reached their highest month on record.
Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show the biggest drop in car sales was in Longford, where new registrations dropped by 12 per cent.
