Galway Bay fm newsroom – A new suicide crisis assessment nurse service for Galway city and environs is now in operation.
It’s the second only such service in the country with the first one established in Wexford.
Shaun Smith has taken up the post and will be working in the city environs as part of the first phase of the roll-out.
The service aims to provide support to patients who present to GPs with thoughts of suicide.
Patients will then be provided with an agreed plan of care aimed at alleviating the crisis and supporting longer term stability.
It’s all part of the HSE’s reconfiguration of mental health services in the region.
