Drimneen House

Drimneen House is a fine riverside residence fronting onto and overlooking the Drimneen River and just a short boat ride to Lough Corrib.

Set amidst four acres of grounds at Knockillaree, Oughrerard, it includes developed gardens, lawns, shrub beds and two paddocks and is accessed off local road via a short gravel avenue.

Aughanure Castle is closeby and also fronts onto the Drimneen River and has access to some of Lough Corrib’s best fishing around Oughterard Bay, Greenfields and Birchall.

Oughterard Golf Club is approximately 700 metres from the house. The residence was built by its current owner in 2003 and offers a high standard of fit-out and accommodation. It is evident on entering this home the amount of thought, care and attention to detail that went into the design and fit-out.

Extending to approximately 387 square metres (4,166 sq ft), its rooms are large, bright, well-proportioned and all take full advantage of its countryside setting overlooking the gardens and the river.

From the feature stairwell in the entrance hall to the specially treated solid oak timber floors (suitable for underfloor heating) to the Rayburn stove in the kitchen, and many dual aspect rooms, you can appreciate the care this home has received.

The house is large, well planned and it offers potential purchasers the opportunity for a large family home or a potential opportunity for guest accommodation.

Approximately 75 metres of frontage onto the Drimneen River gives a very pleasant aspect, as well as the opportunity to fish and gain access via boat to Lough Corrib.

The asking price is €600,000. The BER Rating is C3. For further information or to arrange a viewing, contact Sherry FitzGerald on 091 569123.

Staff from O’Donnellan & Joyce celebrate 40 years in business

When O’Donnellan & Joyce started in 1982, little did they know that one day they would be celebrating 40 years in business. Celebrating the big 4-0 in September meant this has been a landmark year for the company.

In the beginning back in 1982 they worked mostly in lettings and private treaty sales. Their auctions began in 1984 on the Aran Islands with the sale of land and a pub.

Colm commented: “It is definitely one of my highlights over the past 40 years, everyone needs to start somewhere and it was a fabulous start.” The auction was held outside in the summer and is a far cry from the auctions held today.

These days O’Donnellan & Joyce ‘Wild Atlantic’ property auctions which take place in Galway’s Harbour Hotel, are renowned throughout Ireland, with properties for sale from Galway up to Donegal and all along the western seaboard right down as far as Kerry and over in Dublin.

Modern technology now means their auctions can reach a global audience with their live stream online bidding platform attracting international bidders as well as national and local bidders who can now bid and view the auction from the comfort of their own homes leading to a dramatic expansion of audiences across the world in recent years.

Combining modern technology with nationally renowned auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan taking bids on the day, brings tremendous excitement to the live auction room.

Not only do O’Donnellan & Joyce have their successful auction department, they also have a substantial new homes division, their private treaty department which sells on average over 350 homes a year, rentals division and their rapidly growing commercial & valuations department.

Like most businesses, it is the people who make the business. O’Donnellan & Joyce has 16 full time staff with many of them there for over 20 years.

At home in Salthill’s ‘secret garden’!

Published

on

Lenaboy Park has often been described as Salthill’s secret garden, located just a short three-minute walk to the famous Promenade.

It was once part of the original gardens of Lenaboy Castle on Taylor’s Hill. Access is through large black gates situated between the former Warwick Hotel and Care Pharmacy/Morton’s Supermarket in Lower Salthill.

Upon entering, there is a beautifully, landscaped park in the centre of the development, surrounded by a mixture of homes. No 22 is ideally located in a small quiet cul de sac with pedestrian access to the neighbouring Emerson Avenue.

A large, detached home built in the 1940s, this home contains many original features including some original fireplaces, solid timber floors, decorative coving and the original timber stairs. The unique character blends the modern interiors with the historic past and this is evident throughout this family home.

Outside the large garden is a rare find and benefits from having two large apple trees that likely pre-date the property itself. The rear boundaries are clearly defined by a mixture of block walls and timber fence.

To the front of the property, a pedestrian gate opens onto a path and there is a lawn either side with mature shrubbery.

The accommodation comprises of four reception rooms downstairs, a drawing room, living room, sitting room and large L-shaped kitchen/living/dining room. One of these rooms could be used as a downstairs bedroom if required. A shower room completes the downstairs accommodation.

Upstairs, there are three further bedrooms, the main bathroom and a walk in hot-press. An attached garage is to the side of the house for all your storage needs.

The asking price is €835,000. For further information or for viewing, contact Sherry FitzGerald on 091 569123.
