It is just over a year since Hibernacle’s flagship event, Meet Me at the Castle, graced Claregalway Castle for the first time. A mini festival based around collaboration and a reimagined format for live performance in Ireland, the project was a major success.
Over two stages, it featured the likes of Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister and Jape, offering both individual performances and collective collaborations that had been worked on in the days prior.
This summer, the castle has been a hotspot for Galway arts outside of the city. It recently played host to Strange Brew’s Fall Right into Place festival as well as a performance led by Youth Ballet West in celebration of Culture Night.
And it is now set to welcome back the Hibernacle crew for a new series of gigs funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports & Media.
Meet Me at Sundown is an idea that revolves around big artists in small spaces. Its shows are split across three weeks, with acts playing Rathfarnham’s Orlagh House each Monday and moving west to the castle on Tuesday nights.
Paired together on the bill are Paul Noonan & Dani Larkin, Mick Flannery & E.W. Harris, and Gemma Hayes & Cathy Davey. That first duo began the festival last Sunday and Monday, while the other Galway dates scheduled are October 18 for Mick Flannery & E.W. Harris and then Gemma Hayes & Cathy Davey on October 25.
