The Henry Girls from Donegal will give a concert in Portumna on Friday next, January 24, as part of the Portumna Steeple Sessions.
The group is made up of sisters Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin from Malin on the Inishowen Peninsula, who came together as a professional music group in 2001 and have recorded many albums since.
As children, their parents introduced them to a diverse array of artists, from the Bothy Band to Johnny Cash and Ella Fitzgerald. So, while the three draw on their Donegal roots for music and song, their sound also has a strong trans-Atlantic flavour. Roots Magazine has described it as ‘full bodied and powerfully dynamic’.
The Henry Girls, who had a three-week tour of the USA in late 2024, are coming to Portumna as part of the Shorelines Steeple Sessions, which are bringing music to the town throughout the year.
Their concert promises to a be a great antidote to any January blues and a fine welcome to the brighter evenings that are finally on the way. It’s on in Christ Church at 8.30pm next Friday.
Tickets at www.shorelinesartsfestival.com and early booking is advised.
The festival will also be hosting a further session in March and details about this are on the website.
And for those who like to plan ahead, the dates for the 2025 Shorelines Festival are September 11-14.
