Status yellow rainfall warning issued for Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Galway.

The warning will come into effect at 2 this afternoon and will remain in place for 24 hours.

Met Eireann is warning that spells of heavy rain will lead to accumulations of between 30 to 40mm with higher totals possible in upland areas.

The warning is in place for Galway, Clare, Kerry and Limerick.

Galway anti-racism network to hold discussion next week

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Galway Anti-Racism Network will host a discussion next week, on challenging racism in all its forms.

The public event will give a platform to people who have experienced racism and will provide the general population with a toolkit on how to combat racism.

Speakers on the night will include a resident from one of the city’s direct provision centres, a member of the Travelling community, and a young Muslim person who will discuss their experiences of living in Galway.

The talk is designed to educate the audience on the general themes of anti-racism.

The event will take place in the Harbour Hotel, next Tuesday 26th November at 7pm.

Rugby headguard developed by Galway firm to be trialed by World Rugby

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway company has come up with a new rugby headguard which it says can reduce the impact of head tackles by 75 per cent.

N-Pro, which is based in Oranmore Business Park, hopes the product can be used by senior international teams and improve safety in the game.

It comes as World Rugby is implementing a Global Law Trial for headgear over the next five years.

The N-Pro product is the first product to be trialed and will be used in competitive games at all levels globally.

The company was founded by Mark Ganly and Sarah Ganly in 2014 and has invested over one million euro in the research and design of its headguard.

Public urged to take part in Irish language survey for Barna and Knocknacarra

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The communities of Barna and Knocknacarra are being urged to take part in an Irish language survey.

The survey aims to better serve individuals, families and the community at large with their language requirements and services.

It’s led by Údarás na Gaeltachta which has designated over 40 townlands in the vicinity of Barna/Knocknacarra to develop and implement an Irish language plan for the years to come.

Plean Teanga Bhearna / Cnoc na Cathrach aspires to get people to engage more with the language on a daily basis.

The survey is available online at ptbc.ie and must be completed by Friday week (November 29th).
