Councillor Jim Cuddy is making a demand for speed limits to be introduced at all approaches to schools in the county.
The Independent Councillor for the Oranmore area is calling on the council to discuss the matter with the National Roads Authority and the Gardai.
He’s suggesting reducing the speed limits within one hundred metres of the schools.
The Councillor recommends the speed be reduced from eighty to fifty kilometres an hour as this greatly reduces the risk to pedestrians.
Councillor Cuddy says it’s a chance to be pro active about children’s safety.
