The South Galway Bay Music Festival is back for its second year, with a three-night event for all ages taking place from July 28-30.
The festival is being hosted by Ballinderreen GAA Club and headline acts this year include the Tumbling Paddies, Mike Denver, Gerry Guthrie, Derek Ryan, Johnny Brady, Sum Craic, Sinéad Black and Olivia Douglas. Local talent will also feature, including Ballinderreen native, Michael (Mikey) Burke, winner of the All-Ireland Senior Scór 2019 title for Solo Singing.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Ballinderreen was a fixture on touring maps for showbands who travelled the length and breadth of the country. The South Galway Bay Music Festival, which returns following its successful debut in 2022, has revived that spirit, according to organiser Mattie Larkin.
“Ballinderreen GAA club hosted the inaugural South Galway Bay Music Festival in July 2022. It was a leap into the unknown and huge undertaking. However, thanks to an army of volunteers of all ages, the event ran seamlessly. The music was brilliant and the craic was mighty. Everyone who attended had an absolute blast and told us we had to go again.”
They’ve taken that advice and will use all the knowledge and experience gained to make this year’s festival, bigger and better, Mattie says.
Facilities will include outdoor and covered wooden dancefloors and bars with all weather conditions being factored in.
The line-up includes familiar faces from last year alongside some exciting new cats, Mattie adds.
“We are thrilled to welcome attendees from near and far to immerse themselves in the infectious energy of the festival, dance on the 4,200 square foot wooden dancefloor, and enjoy a full bar service. The Family Fun Day on Sunday ensures there is entertainment for all ages. With music playing until 11 pm each night, it’s going to be an incredible experience.”
For adults (ages 18 and over) a one-night tickets cost €25-€30 while a weekend pass is €65 and a Saturday and Sunday Country Music ticket is €50. Youth tickets (13 to 17 years ) cost €15 for one night, while a weekend pass is €30.
