Gardaí in Galway have charged a man in relation to the discovery of more than €60,000 worth of drugs in Rosscahill.

Lucas Satinskas of 20 Bruach na hAbhainn, Coolaney, Sligo, was before Derrynea District Court last week. The 28-year-old faces five charges relating to an incident at Coolagh Rosscahill on January 13, 2023 investigated by Garda Krzysztof Kolodziej.

Prosecuting sergeant Damien Prendergast said the accused made no reply when he was arrested, charged and cautioned.

He was charged with unlawful possession of cocaine and cannabis; and possession of cannabis and cocaine for sale or supply.  These offences were contrary to Sections 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The accused was also allegedly found in possession of €2,150 which was the proceeds of criminal conduct. This was contrary to Section 7 of the Criminal Justice Act which relates to money laundering.

Sergeant Prendergast outlined the quantity of drugs involved was €32,844 worth of cocaine and €32,892 worth of cannabis.

He said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed the matter be prosecuted in the higher circuit court on a signed plea.

Judge Fiona Lydon made an order for statements to be made to defence solicitor Catherine Tolan.

Judge Lydon adjourned to the January sitting in Derrynea to allow the accused enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.
