Series of city meetings to discuss community issues

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A series of community meetings will take place in the city from tomorrow to discuss areas such as economic development and social inclusion with local election candidates.

The meetings are being organised by Galway City Community Forum.

The forum is made up of community, voluntary and civil society organisations and groups.

The first meeting to discuss economic development and planning will take place at 7p.m tomorrow (1/4) at the Galway Centre for Independent Living, Tuam Road.

A meeting on sports, recreation and amenity will take place on Wednesday at 7p.m in City Hall, College road.

More meetings will take place to discuss further topics later in the week.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Motorists are being warned to expect delays this week around Baunemore Roundabout in Athenry.

Resurfacing works are taking place on the R347/R348, with lane closures in place from 9:30am to 5pm all this week.

A Stop and go system will be in place daily.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local councillor is seeking to develop a Sensory Garden at the Long Point in Loughrea.

The outdoor amenity can help improve physical fitness, health, mood and cognition.

Councillor Geraldine Donohue thinks now is the time to consider adding one to Loughrea, as part of the “Vision of the Enhancement of the Long Point”.

ATU Galway lodges plans for new monument dedicated to deceased students

Galway Bay fm newsroom – ATU Galway is planning to develop a new monument dedicated to deceased students of the college.

The university has requested permission to develop a new sculptural stone monument incorporating a memorial wall at its Dublin Road campus.

The proposed memorial will replace an existing memorial on site.

A decision on the plans is due at the beginning of May.
