Galway’s Town Hall Theatre will host Yes and Yes, the latest dance show from renowned choreographer Liz Roche, on Wednesday next, May 17, at 8pm
Yes and Yes, presented by the Liz Roche Company, was commissioned by the Solas Nua arts organisation in Washington DC to mark the 100th anniversary, last year, of the publication of James Joyce’s Ulysses.
The show’s title is taken from the final episode of the book, which both begins and ends with a “yes”. “…yes I said yes I will Yes”; the famous last words of the book, exclaimed by Molly Bloom.
The piece takes the audience on a journey through the episodes of Ulysses, with four extraordinary dancers exploring the sensuality, absurdity, release and resignation of the book. Film, sound, and design also have a role to play.
Yes and Yes maps the movement of the narrative through the streets of Dublin in 1904 and reimagines those spaces and encounters for today.
It comes to Galway following sold-out performances in Washington, Philadelphia and Dublin’s Project Theatre last year. In the US, it was a New York Times 2023 Critic’s Pick.
Yes and Yes is a co-production between Solas Nua and Liz Roche Company in partnership with Cork Opera House. The 70-minute show is for those aged 16 and older.
Tickets are €20/€18, plus booking fee at tht.ie, 091-569777 or at the Town Hall box office.
