Sarsfields 2-11
Oranmore-Maree 2-9
Eanna O’Reilly at Duggan Park
SARSFIELDS sealed their fourth consecutive county senior A camogie title and their sixth in total when edging out a gallant Oranmore/Maree side in Saturday’s exciting final at Duggan Park, Ballinasloe.
The All-Ireland champions were severely tested in a gripping contest, the outcome of which was in the balance when a late delivery from Oranmore/Maree’s Róisín Black dropped into the square, before drifting through the swinging hurleys and wide. The Sarsfields players and supporters were visibly relieved, as they celebrated another golden day for their club.
The defending champions’ composure under pressure was a vital factor in coming out on top with silverware on the line. Hopper McGrath’s team are the first since Athenry (2009) to win the Catherine Donnellan Cup for the fourth year on the spin. The New Inn/Bullaun club impressively consolidated their position as the county’s number one side, against a team which provided them with a major test.
Sarsfields had to overcome injuries to star forward and two time All-Star winner Orlaith McGrath, as well as centre back Maria Cooney, who played with an ankle injury and had to leave the field after 45 minutes. A sixth title in seven years reflects their dominance since winning their first senior championship in 2016.
