ONE of the most impressive farmsteads to come on the market in the Galway area for some time seems certain to attract huge interest over the next few weeks.
The 65-acre residential holding near Portumna comes on the market as ‘the complete package’ comprising a four-bedroom two storey residence; land of the highest quality in the one block; and shed accommodation for up to 120 cattle.
Located just off the N65 Portumna to Loughrea Road – less than two miles from Portumna Town – the sale is being handled by Larkin Auctioneers and Property Management, Corr, Portumna.
The property, which has come on the market following the sad passing of its owner earlier this year, seems likely to attract interest both locally, nationally and overseas as well.
It represents a ‘ready-to-go’ farming enterprise with the pasture lands exceptional – both in terms of soil quality and excellent maintenance over the years.
The fencing is top-class with water laid on to each field while another bonus is the BISS [EU Basic Payment] of approximately €5,300 per year which is included in the sale.
The farmyard and sheds, located to the rear of the residence, are truly impressive with total accommodation for 120 cattle.
Included in the network of sheds is a 2-bay double slatted shed unit with a lieback area; a 3-bay single slatted unit with lieback; a 3-bay single slatted unit attached to a 32 cubicle shed; a 3-bay single slatted unit; a 5-bay straw-bedded shed; a machinery shed; workshop; turf-shed; bull shed; silage slab; holding yard and crush.

According to auctioneer, Francis Larkin, while the two-storey house is in need of some repair, there is ample space for an extension if required.
The four bedrooms are on the first floor while the ground floor consists of kitchen, living room, sitting room and bathroom.
“There is no doubt about it but this is an exceptional property to come on the market in the West of Ireland area and it will attract a lot of interest.
“It’s seldom that such a holding like this comes on the market with 65-acres of excellent land all in the one portion and really well maintained while the stock accommodation in the farmyard is substantial,” Francis Larkin told the Farming Tribune.
While there is no official guide price on the holding, given its quality and location, the eventual price could be in the region of €1 million.
