Galway Bay fm newsroom – A replacement pump has been sourced for the water supply in Derrydonnell and it’s currently being installed
The water supply has been out in Derrydonnell and surrounding areas, including Group Schemes, south of Athenry and Craughwell since yesterday
Galway County Council says they hope to have the supply restored by late this afternoon

Emergency services rescue man from water near the Claddagh

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Emergency services have rescued a man from the water near the Claddagh in the city.

Gardaí, several units of the fire bridge and an ambulance responded to an incident at Nimmo’s Pier shortly before 4 this afternoon.

The condition of the man is not yet known.

It comes as people flock to the water at locations across the county as temperatures continue to soar.

Irish Water Safety is reminding people to ensure diligent supervision at all times, to be mindful of not being overconfident while in the water, and avoid the use of inflatables.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The opening of a new office in Roscommon is being seen as an indication of a fresh Dáil bid for Ballinasloe based Fine Gael senator Aisling Dolan

Tánaiste and Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar officially opened the office in Roscommon town this afternoon (Thurs Aug 11).

Political pundits say it strengthens speculation that Senator Dolan, will run again for the party in the Roscommon/Galway East constituency in the next general election

Senator Dolan ran in the 2020 election and had a good showing, securing over 6000 votes

Fine Gael currently doesn’t hold a seat in the three seat constituency, where former Fine Gael member, and now Independent TD Denis Naughten has a strong footing

Planners reject bid to increase capacity at Athenry creche

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Planners have rejected a proposal to increase capacity at a creche in Athenry town.

The plan, led by owner Marie Hannon, would have increased capacity at a premises at Northgate Street from 28 children to 44.

However, county planners have refused permission, finding there was a failure to provide for additional carparking requirements generated by the proposal.

They also noted that the loss of previously provided car-parking spaces due to the installation of an outdoor play area that did not receive planning permission.
